Issues with iCloud and iPhone X storage

For reasons unknown this week my iCloud storage is saying completely different to the storage on my iPhone X.

I have 5000 photos stored on my phone and when I’ve checked in settings it says 4.9GB, however the iCloud is saying 49GB and is requesting more payment to upgrade from the 50gb I currently pay for?

I’ve not put anymore photos etc on my phone since last months bill yet my storage has jumped to 49GB on iCloud??

Does anybody know why this has happened and what I can do to rectify this?

thank you 🙏

Hey there, Pennyb2007!

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! From your post, it sounds like you're noticing a mismatch of information for iCloud storage. We'll do our best to help with this!

To clarify, are you viewing the storage where it shows 4.9GB in Settings > General > iPhone Storage, or from Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage?

If viewing from iPhone storage, this will only show you the amount of storage physically used on your iPhone, whereas the storage in iCloud will show what's being used for iCloud instead of the phone.

You might also be viewing the total amount of storage used in iCloud. We recommend using the following support article to help manage your storage:

If the above information does not address the issue, please provide more specific details and any steps you're taking.

All the best.
