Anti Virus Program Conflicts

In the past I had installed some apple approved virus protection apps/programs. But I removed them by just removing the Apps. Did not Uninstall. Now when I try to install Norton Anti Virus, Norton shuts down every so often because of conflicts with some hidden files of the old virus protection apps./programs. How can I remove those hidden files?

If an uninstaller does not fully remove everything, there is an effective alternative that does do it. You can download, install and open the free app AppCleaner. it is safe to use. You simply drag the icon for the app to be removed to the open window that AppCleaner provides. It will then prevent you with a list of all the offending apps bits and pieces which are scattered throughout the OS. You then check their removal, click ok and everything is gone. The only time there may be a problem is when using some Adobe apps which can share some functions among the family of Adobe apps. Otherwise, it is safe and effective as a removal tool.

There is no such thing as an "apple approved virus protection app". The macOS has built-in security features. And Norton is about the worst of the bunch. Don't install it.

I'd suggest getting the proper uninstallers for the apps you removed and running them to get rid of the detritus left behind.

Yes, I've only ever found one that removed al of it's own chaff even using their Uninstallers, & have tested a dozen or more, anyway, the free Etrecheck will point them out.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

The important part of the above is...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...
