Imessage

I just transferred my number from one carrier to a new carrier. Everything was successful. However, the imessage feature on the new phone isn't work. I am getting a message that says "Imessage activation - an error occurred during activation. Try again." But it will not connect with the phone number. What do I do to fix this?
