i upgraded my iPad and plan to give my old one to my daughter to activate on her account for my granddaughter. How do I get a new phone number assigned to the old iPad?

Assign a new phone number? You do understand that iPad is not - and never can be - a stand alone replacement for an iPhone? An iPad, Cellular model or not, cannot independently access Cellular Voice and SMS Text services. If a DataSIM is installed and provisioned, the assigned number is only used to identify your account for billing purposes.


Assuming that your iPad is a WiFi+Cellular model, you can move your existing DataSIM to a different iPad - and/or install a new DataSIM with a different Cellular service plan (and “number”).


If preparing your old iPad for a new owner, after transferring you data to a new iPad, the old device should be properly prepared by erasing all data and personal information - and removing the Activation Lock that will other impede use by the new owner. The recommended procedure to erase and prepare the iPad is described here:
