It's been working fine for months, now all of a sudden any mp4 I open from an external drive is sideways (needs to be rotated 90°). On all my other computers operating from the same external drives, the files open as they should.

Figured it out. Twas a VLC problem. Under "Window," select "Video Effects." in the window which opens select, "Geometry," In my case the "Transform" option had been enabled and was set to "Rotate 90 Degrees." Unchecked, problem solved.
