Thank you for responding Camelot, but it doesn't really achieve what I'm after. To quickly elucidate: I start with a blank sheet, then animate by bullet by wiping from left (such that the first bullet then appears, but not yet the others). Having presented on that bullet item, I want its text to turn grey (i.e. still visible, but not full-on), whilst building-in the next bulleted item for presentation - and so on down the list. Doing as you've kindly suggested will not achieve this outcome. I've tried duplicating the text box that contains the bullets, placing this exactly over the top of the original box, changing the whole box text to grey, and then sending it to the back. Besides building-in the top box by bullet, I also build-it-out by bullet, uncovering the box beneath with grey text as it goes. The problem is that this also defeats the build-in function on the top text box, such that all bullets are immediately visible upon slide entry - which I do not want. I want them to be initially invisible, and then build them in one at a time. This latter element appears to be a bug. I am an experienced Powerpoint user, and it's easy to achieve the stated objective with that software, but it seems Keynote doesn't have what I consider to be essential functionality, hence the need for trying to find a work-around.
