New iPhone. No sound alerts

How do I turn on sounds for new texts, etc. ? I am getting vibrate only despite selecting various tones for new emails, texts, etc

Check the ring/silent switch on the left side of the phone. See: How to put your iPhone on vibrate, ring, or silent mode - Apple Support

The text message comes through and the notification shows on screen, but no tone is heard. I have enabled the correct buttons under notifications and the volume is okay. Message sound notification on I-phone XR I have read through the previous questions, all of the sound notifications are turned on, and I still only get sound notifications sporadically. The sounds always seem to go off when I am in holding the phone, or sometimes when replies are being sent to me, but not when I am a little farther away. I have missed many messages in a timely fashion because my phone doesn’t go off. The last trick I tried just a few minutes ago was to turn the lock sound off, but don’t know if that will help yet.

How do i turn off dial pad tones on iphone 14 pro (iOS 16) Hi, I am new to iPhone and been having a very frustrated switch from Android. Hoping someone can help. There is a loud dial pad tone every time I dial a number. I have tried to turn this off in sounds & haptics but issue still persists. The only way to it turns off is it to switch it to silent. Any ideas how I can turn the dial pad tones off at all times, as they are not the most pleasant of sounds? Thank you

no orange showing on the mute button but still no text , email sounds.
