COLUMN BREAK grayed out
Why is the insert COLUMN BREAK grayed out in my Pages document? I have a 3-column text box and cannot force a column break since the option is gray.

Ian,
To create a multiple column text box, create a text box, then for a 3-column box go to Text > Layout > Columns > 3. To create a column break, go to Insert in the top menu bar where you will find Page Break, Line Break and Column Break but currently my Page Break and Column Break are grayed out.
I think I just found the problem/answer — mine is set up as a Page Layout Document. The Column Break works in a Word Processing Document.

Hi Linobe,
Thanks for the tip about multiple column text boxes. I didn't know that was possible.
Here is a three column text box in a page layout document. You must have the cursor flashing inside the text box to insert a column break. That makes sense as the break is inserted where the cursor is.

Ian.
Ian,
Thank you for the update. I tried creating a brand new Layout Document and it worked just fine. I produce a monthly newsletter that gets new text imported into it to replace the old text and the Insert Column won't work in old existing 3-column text boxes but DOES work in the same document if I create a NEW text box. I must have done something to mess up the old file. I think I'll just create new text boxes next month.
Thanks again!
Linobe
Hi linobe,
I have never seen a 3-column text box. Is it perhaps a 3-column table?
Tables do not allow column breaks.
Regards,
Ian.
