Why does my iPad beep briefly but frequently - iPad OS 14
it happens when it’s closed and not in use and when I’m in Safari or Twitter or any other app. Just 2-4 notes are sounded.
what causes it and apart from turning the volume off what can I do?

Are you perhaps receiving audible Notifications from an installed App? You may need to do some detective work to identify the specific App:
Settings > Notifications

Yes, I have edited all the Notification options turning off sounds except where it’s vital. It has been a happily quiet day!
