"AirPlay Underscan" -- What is it? do?

4th gen AppleTV, under AirPlay settings, there is slot of "AirPlay Underscan" (Auto).

What is that? What is it supposed to do? What is its function?

It sets a behavior when the aspect ratio doesn’t match.
