Loss of nearly half of contacts following update to IOS 14.4.1

After updating my iPhone 8+ to 14.4.1 a lot of my contacts disappeared from access via the Contacts app. I found that if I used the generic Search function I could still find them. I reported this bug to Apple but have not heard anything back. Has anyone else found this same bug?

In the contacts app there are different groups depending on source.

If you tap "groups" top left, are there any that are not ticked?
