Connect Apple USB.....to a USB port on this Mac

2 month old M1 Mac book air, and plugged in an Apple superdrive via a hub this morning for the first time and presented with the above mentioned error message.

So followed another thread on here, checked the required power vs available power:

Apple USB SuperDrive:

Product ID: 0x1500

Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)

Version: 2.02

Serial Number: KG1D5V33426

Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s

Manufacturer: Apple Inc.

Location ID: 0x00130000 / 3

Current Available (mA): 500

Current Required (mA): 500

Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

So looks like there is sufficient power?

What next? I bust the bank buying the latest Apple laptop, didn't expect an existing Apple accessory to create a problem.

The hub powers up back-up hard drives without issue, the superdrive works well with my old ~ 2014 MacBook air.

Appreciate any ideas!

Mike

Thanks for your ideas and reply.

The hub is not powered - I am wondering how Apple can supply a cutting edge laptop with only two ports, and then supply insufficient power to run an Apple device?

I guess there is no alternative but to shell out more cash on top of the hub I already purchased, and look for a powered hub - it never crossed my imagination that a powered hub would be needed to run Apple's own multi-drive.
