Horizontal line across screen

Hi,

I was wondering how to fix this big line across my screen. It randomly appeared when I was watching Netflix, and it has gotten significantly larger the more I use it.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2

Hey there macosfan2000,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you're seeing a display anomaly on your MacBook Air and we'd like to see how we can help out.

It sounds like this anomaly continues to get worse with time. Let's figure out if this is hardware related. If you begin with just a simple restart, does the anomaly disappear? Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

If it remains, let's have you boot into macOS Recovery. While in macOS Recovery you won't be doing anything specific or choosing any of the options that appear. We simply just want to see if the anomaly is still seen while booted in this mode. Here's how to start up in macOS Recovery:

1. Restart your Mac.

2. Immediately press and hold the following key combination until you see the startup screen: Command-R.

3. This will start your Mac up from the built-in macOS Recovery System.

If you are still able to see this display anomaly on your MacBook screen while in macOS Recovery, this would likely indicate a hardware failure. In that case, you should consider having your MacBook inspected and evaluated in person at your local Apple Store Store List - Apple Store - Apple, or Apple Authorized Service Provider Apple - Find Locations - Location Selector. Or, reach out to discuss options here: Contact - Official Apple Support.

Thank you for your post.

Take care.
