4k vs 1080p
Hi, we have a 4k tv connected to an Apple TV HD. Does this mean any app we stream using the Apple TV HD will only show at 1080 on the tv even though it's a 4k tv?

Yes with a small caveat. A lot of 4K TVs will upsample the video to 4K ( my Sony does this by default and you cannot switch it off )
It isn't as good as getting true 4K content fed to it ( as with your Apple TV HD which only feeds a max of 1080P ) but it is a reasonable half way house

That is correct. The Apple TV HD will not output a 4k image.
If you wish to view 4K content steaming from an Apple TV to your 4K TV you need the Apple TV 4K model.
