Existing software on your system loaded an unidentified system extension from Legacy Developer...???

The below popped up on my screen, I have no idea what it means, should I be concerned, should I try and remove it?

'Existing software on your system loaded a system extension signed by “Legacy Developer: Unidentified” which will be incompatible with a future version of macOS. Contact the developer for support.'

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.2

You seem to have ‘old’ software installed, from a developer that is not registered with Apple (not ever, or not anymore, or not at the time of releasing that software). This particular software will run as intended on the macOS version from the screenshot, but this system extension will not run or load in later versions of macOS.

You get this message so that you can contact the developer about that, if you wish to continue to use this software on later versions of macOS, so that they may create a compatible version. This pop-up as shown gives no clue to which software this is about, though.

The issue is that macOS is getting more strict about what additions others can make to the system, and this old(-style) piece of software doesn’t comply in its current form.

You could search your Mac for .kext files from other developers than Apple, if needed. Start with /Library/Extensions/.

It could be about software that is able to assist in controlling/communicating with an external third party device (scanner, camera, DVD drive, audio equipment). A.k.a. ‘drivers’.
