Logic Pro 10.6.1: Quantize Strength greyed-out in region inspector?

Newbie question so please be kind......

Is this a bug or have I missed a setting somewhere? Having quantised a region in the region inspector (midi software instrument from Logic library) I can adjust every quantize option EXCEPT Quantize Strength. This slider cannot be adjusted, so all quantising remains at 100% strength!

If I now go to the Piano Roll I can select individual notes in the selected region and modify quantisation parameters here - note for note, however when selecting different notes only the velocity parameter updates with each note reselected......... say I choose a different quantisation value & different velocity for each of say 5 notes, then afterwards clicking back on each note the quantisation value/strength is frozen at the last selection - however the velocity value does update correctly. Surely, with each individual note selected both velocity and quantisation setting/strength values should display the changes that I just made?

Hey there,

To further assist you, can you please set up your preferences as such? Go to Preferences>Display and enable "Show Default Values". This will allows us to read the Region Inspector in a much easier way as we will see live numbers.

Also, can we start with a new session and play in a midi part with no quantization in the region inspector or the piano roll?

From here, notes should be "off the grid". I would like for you to quantize and then let me know if this slider works for you.

Hope this helps and solves your query,

Eddie G.

You are most welcome.

The Quantization Strength in the Region Inspector and the Piano Roll are not the same. Although they handle the same job, the region inspector is responsible for the "region" whereas the Piano Roll can cover all region data and individual selections as well.

I can change the entire Q-Strength for the Region in the region inspector whereas in the piano roll, I can use the Q-strengh to affect individual Midi Events or Midi Selections such as the diagram below.

You are right the Q-Value will not change its display upon selecting as Velocity does.

Hope this helps and solves your query,

Eddie G.

Genius thank you so much Eddie! Yes it's now enabled me to change Q strength in the region inspector! Brilliant!

However the Piano Roll issue appears to be the same - i.e. selecting a bunch of notes individually will reveal any note-velocity alterations but not any individual Q changes...... so for example of five separate notes where I've made five unique adjustments to both velocity & quantisation value/strength - only the velocity values display correctly! The Q value/strength doesn't change when I select the notes. It seems to be stuck on the last entered value. Also - if I select ALL notes in the Piano Roll should the overall Q value correspond to the value I set in the region inspector?

Very confusing to me as a novice - but extremely grateful for your advice Eddie!

Thanks again for your help - much appreciated!

Thanks again Eddie! Yes I get the difference between quantising the whole region vs individual notes in the piano roll. It would just be useful to be able to go back & review any Q adjustment values I'd made to individual notes (as per velocity adjustments which can be reviewed as you pointed out) as it might well take a few tweaks to nail the "feel"

It seems that currently there is no visible back reference to these Q modifications in the piano roll - short of writing them down on a piece of paper? I suppose if all else fails I could use my ears : )

At least by chatting to you I realise that this isn't a bug - however do you think this would be a worthy update?

Anyway Eddie you have been SO helpful, and now I have a fully functioning Q strength option in the region inspector! This is how I will probably work most of the time!

Many thanks indeed for your time!
