Apple Silicon: Shall I say I am dissapinted?

As I had mentioned in an earlier post of mine, I purchased an Apple Silicon Mac Mini last January, the 16 GB RAM one. I use it with a BenQ, Satechi cradle hub, Wacom tablet and my external USB HDs

I mainly use my computer - 90% of the time - to train photographers, in Photoshop and Lightroom, online, using Webex.

Working with Photoshop and Lightroom, navigating, etc is a dream. I can't be happier...

BUT:

Some issues started to appear.

  • Sometimes one of the external USB HD gets ejected without prior notice.
  • Sometimes the computer displays a message saying that I should eject Time Machine properly before disconnecting it, and in those cases I didn't disconnected or ejected Time Machine.
  • Sometimes Lightroom could not find a Catalogue which I ofter use and is located in one of the external drives. If I try to open the drive in question, I sometimes find it, to my horror, empty!
  • Sometimes the external HD gets"unmounted" and I have to restore a backup copy from CCC
  • At times the computer restarts without my intervention, just out of the blues. This is something which happened last might and I managed to copy the error report that I sent to Apple later on and which I will reproduce at the end of this message.

Apple Support kindly got in touch with me, case number **********0233. The person who contacted me and is in charge of this case is very kind, eager to help, etc. I was asked to use the support program called "Capture_Data", in order to find out the reason for such an erratic behavior of my Apple Silicon Mac mini. I must have executed this program 8 or 9 times, and no luck. I even formatted/ erased the computer HD twice.

• Thank you, Woodmeister50. Just a couple of things:
By thunderbolt you mean USB C?
• Could you please recommend an OWC multiway drive, like the one you mention?

To be clear, USB-C is a connector specification and does not

define what is on it, The USB-C connector can carry USB 3/4,

Thunderbolt 3/4, video, power only, and anything else some one

can dream up.

Thunderbolt and USB are two totally distinct data protocols.

Currently, Thunderbolt 3/4 support up to 40 Gbit/sec transfer

and the latest USB spec is 20 Gbit/sec.

All their enclosures are very good so pick one with the number

drives you want and the interface you want.

As an added note, if your drives are traditional HDDs, don't waste money

on a Thunderbolt enclosure and even if the drives are 2.5" format SSD

as the drives themselves will limit how fast the data is transferred and

Thunderbolt will be overkill.
