Screen Recording Error (Your screen recording can't be saved.)

Quicktime Player and Screen Recording Launcher on my MacBook Pro (Big Sur) both aren't working. I normally use command shift 5 to screen record, but the result is a corrupt file with a message of 'your screen recording can't be saved. error saving recording.' This happens when I have any or no apps open. I've restarted my computer several times as well as being running on to the newest software update. This has been persistent for at least 6+months and judging that search engine results show the same question I keep finding every time I have this issue, without a solution, I think I need to re-open the question. Any recommendations? Thanks :)

i'm not sure this will work for you, but, in the past, whenever i attempted a screen recording (cmd+shift+5) that turned out to exceed 16GB and the selected save location was set to anything other than "desktop" i too would get the "your screen recording can't be saved. error saving recording." ever since i first encountered that issue, i now save screen recordings to the desktop first and then transfer them to the disk i want to put them on. since i started using this method, i haven't had an issue saving any of my recordings.

Greetings TwistedMike!

From your post we see you are running into some trouble with screen recording on your MacBook Pro with Quicktime. We want to help! Try booting into safe mode and seeing if the issue continues: How to use safe mode on your Mac. Since the file seems to be having some trouble saving as well you may want to try repairing your drive: How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility.

Have a great rest of your day!
