Replacement unit

As I read there are some replacement devices that are new and some are refurbished, so how I would know that the replacement device I’m using is new or refurbished.

iPhone 11 Pro Max, iOS 14

Remember a phone tefurbished by Apple is re-manufacturered with new battery and screen and is otherwise impossible to tell.

Settings, General. About, Model no.

  • If the model number starts with M, it was purchased new from Apple.
  • If the model number starts with F, it was refurbished by Apple or a carrier.
  • If the model number starts with P, it was sold as a personalized iPhone with an engraving.
  • If the model number starts with N, Apple provided it as a replacement device for a malfunctioning iPhone.
