Apple ID for 9+ game (Among Us)

My son (aged 9) cannot sign in to an app using his Apple ID even though the game is rated 9 (Among Us). To use Apple ID in games you need to be 13+. Is there any work around?

Same. It’s a 9+ game. There’s no other way to sign into the game either. The only work around I can think of is to create a new Apple account and put in a false DOB - kind of defeats the point.

As his parent, I should be able to make the decision, not Apple.

Hi there PhillipKebab,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have a 9 year old that wants to use Sign in with Apple. This feature is not available for children under 13. Learn more here: What is Sign in with Apple?

There may be other options to sign in to the game or play without signing in. You can contact the app developer for further help with that: How to contact an app developer.

We hope this helps!

It’s not apple’s doing, it’s the app developer. The developer set the app login to only be available to 13+ age accounts. Someone else posted a link to contact the developer and that is the correct direction for your complaint. Minecraft setup their app to allow iOS users under 13 to login with their Apple ID and Among Us has the same ability, they just didn’t.

It seems to me a very poor design choice from the Among Us programmers: they created an account system and a key objectives is the safeguard of children; then they used a feature (using the Apple ID to create the Among Us account) that is unavailable to children's IDs by design. All this while plenty of other platforms (e.g. Roblox, Minecraft) have no problem dealing with accounts for children on Apple iOS devices.

The worst of this, the (unnecessary) inability of creating Among Us children accounts on iOS will ultimately push end users to lie about their age, thus contradicting one of they objectives of the Among Us account system, the safeguard of children.

Not much to complain with Apple here, or for Apple to fix: it's Among Us developers that got this completely wrong.

So this is an issue with the app. The app developers developed it as a 9+ game. Then they chose to make the only sign in option one that requires the player to be 13+. What did Apple do wrong here? I’m experiencing this issue but I don’t expect Apple to fix it. They didn’t make it impossible for anyone under 13 to sign in to the game. I’m going straight to the App Developer, the place where my issue originated.

This is definitely a failure of both Apple and Innersloth-- Apple's broken policy where they approve a 9+ app where you can't sign in unless you're 13+, and there's support for child accounts for "sign in with apple" (which is the root of the problem), and then Innersloth published this update with non-functional security settings for child accounts.

I hope one or the other will fix this.

I have the same problem with two girls (8 &11) about to mutiny over this. We play it together all the time and I don’t understand why a control which was introduced by the developers to crack down on negative community issues within the game would now stop them from having control over their accounts when their mother is more than happy for them to play it.

PLEASE allow a workaround. I can already approve all sorts of requests from my account for them, why can’t I be able to override this when I feel it’s appropriate!?!?
