My son (aged 9) cannot sign in to an app using his Apple ID even though the game is rated 9 (Among Us). To use Apple ID in games you need to be 13+. Is there any work around?

Same. It’s a 9+ game. There’s no other way to sign into the game either. The only work around I can think of is to create a new Apple account and put in a false DOB - kind of defeats the point.
As his parent, I should be able to make the decision, not Apple.
There's little point in an approval process if it fails so miserably even with extremely popular apps. If Apple is going to restrict, they also have to take responsibility for their system.
But true, the developer should have preemptively avoided this problem.
This is sad, is there perhaps some sort of workaround for games for kids? I understand signing in for kids to certain apps is not allowed to keep them safe, but for games is there no workaround. Amoung Us is rated 9+, my son is 11. Hope you will be able to assist somehow.
This is extremely aggravating and needs to be changed. My son is mainly upset cause he can't change the display name. Still, I'm more annoyed that the app has decided to be the ones to choose what my child can and cannot do.
Saying it's the app developer's fault, while true, is deflecting the real issue.
It shouldn't matter what the app developers do or don't do - parents should be able to grant permission around what their children play or watch, not be subject to a blanket Apple policy. As my child's parent and manager of their ID in Family Sharing, I should be able to approve or disapprove on a case by case basis.
My daughter also likes playing among us but because she can't sign in with apple ID the game is 9+. Why can't she do this she's 11. ?!
I’ll give it to you that maybe Apple’s approval process should have caught the sign in issue. It remains, however, mostly the App Developers fault that this was pushed out this way.
