How do I get my aol email account back after this update ..wants password which I entered. Still not retrieving account email.

In common with many other Mail providers, AOL now use App Specific Passwords to access IMAP or POP3 mailboxes. Your update triggered the need to update your Mail settings.

The Mail App on each of your devices, such as your iPad, requires a unique password to be generated from within the AOL account. This App Specific password intentionally differs from your AOL account password - and can only be used to access your AOL mail.

Check with AOL Support. They have instituted 2-factor authentications and you need to add a device specific password. Their support will have instructions on what it is that you need to do.

I'm having the same issue but with Hotmail. Keeps telling me Cannot Get Mail: The connection to the server failed. I've tried everything as far as turning phone on & off, delete account and adding account back; changing password, resetting network settings. I can log into my hotmail account on safari though, so not the internet connection.

I uninstalled and reinstalled AOL mail on my iPhone and it works fine now. Thanks for the direction!!
