I have the 2-Factor authentificator security option activated in my apple account and yet only realized that someone entered and changed my password because they were trying to access my hotmail. How can this happen? How can I avoid this in the future? I want my Apple ID account as safe as it can be.

What does Hotmail have to do with this? If they were trying to access your Hotmail account, that would have no effect on your Apple ID.
Nothing indeed, but just mentioning it because 2F security worked there and if it hadn’t been because they tried to breach my hotmail acc, I wouldn’t have signed in to check and find out via e-mail that someone had just changed my Apple ID...
Not that I know of... It’s weird. Why would my 2F work for hotmail and not for Apple ID?...
