First, close the banner notification on screen - and then resolve the outstanding AppleID account issue that is highlighted, with a red badge, at top left of your screen.

After you have updated your AppleID account, close iPad settings. Next, force-restart your iPad - as this will hopefully resolve your issue:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If the problem remains unresolved, may have an existing uninstalled update that is interfering with the update process. This update file may be damaged/corrupted and must be removed if present.

To delete the failed update from your iPad:

Settings > General > iPad Storage

Scroll down the list of Apps until you find the Apple Update, tap, then select Delete Update.

After deleting the update, a further forced-restart of the iPad is recommended. After restarting, you can reattempt a manual update:

Settings > General > Software Update

I hope this proves to be helpful in resolving the problem.
