crd.download file from Chrome cannot be deleted, moved, or renamed.

Using MacbookPro with Mohave

How can i delete a crd.download file, produced by Google Chrome? I renamed it with .PDF because Get Info says it is an Acrobat file. Now the file still won't delete or move or be renamed and Acrobat cannot open any files.

Please help!

Have you aborted the download from with Chrome? Or have you tried to delete the file after closing the Chrome app by pressing and holding Command + Q?

Where is this file located? What is the file permissions on both the file and the parent folder?

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if you can delete the file.

Do you have any anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, or third party security software installed that may be interfering? If so uninstall those apps by following the developer's instructions. These types of apps are not needed on macOS and they usually cause more problems than they solve plus they impact system performance.

Thanks HW, I did try changing permissions and Chrome options. The internet is loaded with frustrated people with no effective response. The file was on the desktop. I also tried running Mac Disk Utility, which could not see a problem. I am embarrassed to say that simply rebooting without safe mode [which I was afraid to do] solved the problem. Hope this helps you help someone else. Thanks for your quick attention, Drybrook
