Would Apple call you saying you made a large purchase on your account? I believe it’s a scam. Is there anyway to make sure someone did not use my apple account?

I just received a call from Apple saying I made a purchase over $1000.00. I hung up because I believe it was a scam. Do you know if someone made a purchase on my account?
