where to look for my saved iPhoto book I created several years ago

The iPhoto books are a part of then iPhoto Library. You have to find the iPhoto Library you used when you created the book and open it in iPhoto.
Or did you export the finished book as a PDF file?
Then try to find the PDF of the book.
