Pdf files opening in the same tab as replacing my web page on safari

whenever I download a pdf file on safari the web page I am using just gets replaced by the pdf which is very annoying. I don’t know why is this happening I am new to the ios experience may be but this is just annoying.

If there is any other way to just open the downloads or files in new tab, please let me know

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you'd like to know if you can open or download a PDF file via Safari without having it replace the current webpage you're viewing on your iPhone. Let's see if we can help with this.


When you are on the webpage in Safari on your iPhone, locate the link to your PDF file. Try pressing and holding on that link and you should see a pop up menu appear. Are you able to choose 'Open in New Tab' or 'Download Linked File' from that pop up menu?
