Can I use my mid 2011 iMac as a monitor for my 2020 M1 MacBook Pro?

For a number of reasons:


  • Macs are computers and are not displays for other devices.
  • M1 based Macs do not support TDM.
  • Big Sur does not support TDM.
  • and likely several others.


You will find it much less expensive, easier to connect and much more reliable to simply buy an external display (they start at about $100) and move forward.
