My screen says applecare detected virus. Is this legit? It pops up every few minutes.
If it's not true, how do I stop the pop ups?

No, it is not legit. Ignore it. Don't interact with it.
1. Click menu in the menu bar, hold the shift key on the keyboard down and choose “Force Quit Safari” from the
dropdown.
Safari will quit.
Launch Safari holding the shift key down.
