How do I set the author for a pdf file? I've got it set in the metadata but iTunes and my phone appear to be ignoring it.

I'm trying to bring pdf files onto my phone but I cannot figure out how to set the Author. It's set in the metadata but it's being ignored. And I can't just edit it by right clicking the book in iTunes while my phone is connected because when I do so I cannot type in the field.

How can I edit the pdf so that iTunes and my phone will actually show the Author.

I think you're out of luck. iTunes 12.7 dropped support for Books, ePubs, and PDFs in iTunes for Windows. If I recall correctly it is possible to have a PDF that is a digital booklet in Music, and they can also appear in Podcasts, but you cannot otherwise add custom metadata that would transfer to an iPhone. The last build capable of that would be iTunes 12.6.5.3. iTunes doesn't necessarily read properties attached to the file in Windows Explorer or embedded into the PDF.

Have you tried downloading the document onto the computer then edit the metadata?

If you've bought it from Apple Books, then it should already be there.

If not, you might need to change that in the Apple Books app. Here's a good resource to follow:

If your using windows, you might need to get adobe acrobat to help with changing the author. But if you really want to, you can do it in GIMP.

Another option would be OpenOffice but I don't know for sure that you can change metadata with that software.
