enterprise lock computers identification

How can we tell a computer is enterprise or corporate locked. For instance if someone is selling a laptop which is enterprise lock and you have no idea and buy it with cash from a craigslist sale?

We are talking MacBook pro here.

You have a valid concern - there is no way to tell a device is enrolled in Apple's DEP, Airwatch, JAMF, Mosyle, or other provisioning / activation service.

The best way is to follow @leroydouglas steps in wiping the laptop and reinstalling Mac OS before you pay for a used laptop.

When you activate the OS, the Mac will check with Apple activation servers and if it is a corporate owned device, it will flag you to enter the admin/IT/user credentials in order to finish.

Thanks for that info. I would perform the following steps to check each Mac:

  1. Start up from macOS Recovery.
  2. If you're prompted to authenticate as an administrator, skip to step 5.
  3. From the top of the screen, select Utilities -> Terminal.
  4. Type "resetpassword" without the quotes and hit Enter (Return).
  5. From the top of the screen, select Recovery Assistant -> Erase Mac.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to erase the Mac.
  7. When the Mac restarts, check for Activation Lock:
    1. If the Mac activates without issue, it is safe to accept. Reinstall macOS.
    2. If the Mac shows an Activation Lock window, refuse the Mac. If the previous owner is available, they must remove the Mac from their Apple ID using one of their devices, or at https://appleid.apple.com. Once that is done, restart the Mac and see if the Activation Lock window still appears.

NOTE: If you run into a firmware password at step 1 instead, restore the firmware on the T2 Security Chip: Revive or restore an Intel-based Mac with Apple Configurator 2 - Apple Support. Then, skip to step 7.

? if it is too good to be true, well then it probably is...

This should not be a question if the Mac is properly prepared for resale:

If this machine bound to Enterprise, JAMF, MDM, active directory list (?) you will need to contact the owner/admin

to update/upgrade or de-provision the device.

Well this is FIND MY activation lock. I was mentioning when a company computer is locked by a company.

For instance company AA gets 1000 MBP to its employees and only those employees can use them. They cannot sell

those out as on the company IT professionals can unlock them. If we buy those by mistake then these computers cannot be

changed at all unless you have the company ID and password. People sell these to other folks on craigslist and *** them.

I am trying to figure out a way to find out if the MBP is clean of such issue.

What are the steps we can take to make sure it is a legit personal clean laptop?
