You don’t need and shouldn’t use a VPN. See→Don't use VPN services. · GitHub except to connect to an internal office or school network. VPNs offer no advantage, cut your throughput to 25% of bandwidth, and allow the VPN provider to monitor your traffic. If your provider is honest it’s sort of OK, but there is no way to know how honest they are, and even if they are they can be hacked.

If you are concerned about using public Wi-Fi, it is actually secure (at least as secure as VPN) as long as you use only Apple-approved apps from the app store and only go to websites that implement SSL (they will have a lock next to the site name), thus assuring end-to-end encryption.

A good VPN connection is never free. If you get something for free, then it is you who is the product. Which does not harmonize well with, anonymity and security.

My advice, search on Google for the best VPN.

There are several good ones that are both cheap and some that are a little more expensive.

This is why it is important to pay for a reputable VPN provider. A provider that offers No Logging. The major VPN providers are also being tested by independent companies that control security.

We can always be paranoid. But with a VPN, your ISP can not see what you are doing, it is facts, and conversely without a VPN, your ISP can see everything. Then this is where you want to place your trust. I can find lots of articles that go in depth with why you should use VPN, just as there are probably also lots that tell why you should not use VPN.

But it can also be used for something other than hiding. Streaming, shopping etc. This is primarily what I use my VPN for, and the idea that no one other, than of course the VPN provider can look over my shoulder, but I trust that when they write "no logging" policy, they mean it. Otherwise you can never trust anyone.
