What do you mean what should you do?

Why do you think you need a VPN to begin with?

There is plenty of security built into ios. Unless you’re trying to bypass government controls or access content that is blocked in your region, neither one of which are entirely legal, it would serve no purpose.

The only legitimate reason to use a VPN is to access resources on a private network such as your employer or schools, in which case you need to talk to your IT department.

You’re seeking to add a second (and much weaker, and not end-to-end, and privacy-leaking) tunnel around the existing end-to-end fully-encrypted tunnels present in iPhone?

If you really want to run your own second tunnel and tunnel server, Algo is free: https://github.com/trailofbits/algo

Why do you even want a first-few-hops VPN? (Other than the hype, of course.)

What do you think it gains you?

Are you seeking to solve a problem you don’t have and that hasn’t existed for a decade or so, and badly?

Or is there some other reason? (There are some specific reasons. But in most cases, first-few-hops VPNs make things worse.)

Some background reading: https://www.vice.com/en/article/xgxnwk/you-probably-dont-need-a-vpn

[I am here differentiating over-hyped first-few-hops VPNs from the VPNs that are used to connect into the internal network of an organization you are affiliated with.]
