After upgrading to Big Sur, can't backup from one external drive to another using Time Machine

Using Mac OS Catalina, I was always able to backup one external drive to another external drive, through my MacBook Pro, using Time Machine. Now that I've "upgraded" to Big Sur, Time Machine no longer detects the external drive that I want to backup. I'd appreciate any suggestions for how to accomplish this task that formerly was easily accomplished. Thanks!

Backup external hard drive to Time Machine external drive I'm trying to back up my external hard drive (formatted as Mac OS Extended [Journaled]) to my Time Machine external drive (also formatted as Mac OS Extended [Journaled]). The only thing that Time Machine recognizes is my MacBook Pro. When I go into the options menu in Time Machine, I can see the external drive that I want to back up, but it's greyed out, so I can't select it. I also can't add it, it shows up as greyed out. I've read that you can't back up external drives to Time Machine if it's in a different format, but both external drives are formatted the same. Has anyone got a solution to this? I ended up copying the external hard drive's contents to my desktop and it got backed up by Time Machine, but obviously I'd like to store things on my external hard drive which has a greater capacity (1 Tb). Otherwise it's an expensive paperweight.

Time Machine to Backup an external hard drive to a second external hard drive Hi Everyone, I am trying to use Time Machine to backup an external hard drive to a second external hard drive. I click on Options at the bottom of the Time Machine window. This is where you can add or subtract items to "exclude these items from backups". In this section, the drive I would like to back up is on the list, but grayed out. Since it is grayed out, it is not allowing me to select the minus sign to remove it from the list of items to exclude from back up. Any ideas? I am on an iMac Pro with Big Sur. Thanks!

Back up to external hard drive with Time Machine Hello! I have a conundrum. I'm trying to help a friend (who is on a Mac) back up his Mac and one external hard drive to a second external hard drive. I thought we had it set so that the second external hard drive was set to be the backup disk in Time Machine. We also made sure the first external hard drive was included in the backup through Time Machine preferences. However, that's not working. Any ideas? Thank you for your advice!
