How do I make an alias address the default "from" address

I have set up an alias, but I now want to set it as the default for sending email. Right now, I have to use the dropdown "From" menu each and every time I send an email and it is a huge pain. I send a lot of emails each day.

Move the alias to the front of the list in the edit window, to set the default for new email.

From Mail>Preferences>Compose verify you select automatic—

here replying to incoming email to the alias will reply using the alias as well.

I will add there are some known caveats in using alias ,

ref: Mail goes to Junk

*If you use a non-iCloud SMTP server, don't use your iCloud email address as a "Send From" address. Otherwise, your email might not deliver or it might deliver to the recipient's Junk folder.

Hi Law_VA,

We understand you'd like to change the default account in the Mail application. We're happy to help.

Open the Mail app, then select Mail up in the menu bar and choose Preferences. Go to the Composing tab, then under the Addressing section, select the email account you'd like to use for sending next to the Send new messages from option.
