Best photo management system for large numbers of photos in libraries in iPhoto and Photos

any recommendations for how best to manage some thousands of photos previously grouped in libraries in iPhoto? Now that it is no longer supported, I want to create replacement libraries and 'albums' by year and location, secure that they can be archived and that the work will not be made redundant by some future software iteration.

Is there any 'industry standard' for such photo management and archiving that is reasonably 'future proofed'?

No there is no industry standard, however it's likely that the most popular photo management application in the world is Adobe's Lightroom Classic. It's robust, in fact, so robust that I would query the need for multiple libraries. How many photos are we talking about here?

As for future proofing? Well Adobe are undoubtedly the industry leader and as LRC is a subscription service, you're always up-to-date with their latest technologies.
