Sending mail taking too long

1. What is the exact version of macOS you're currently using? Find out which macOS your Mac is using
2. Do you use any other emails accounts with the Mail app? If so, does the issue happen with all accounts?

Since it sounds like you do experience issues with your Mac running slowly at other times as well, can you let us know if you had a chance to complete all of the steps in the second link we provided in our initial reply? If so, did that seem to improve the issue at all?

To help narrow things down further, can you let us know if you experience the same behavior in safe mode? How to use safe mode on your Mac

Just to confirm, it sounds like the issue does still occur in safe mode, correct? If the issue continues to happen in safe mode, please be sure to check out the steps in the "If the issue continues in safe mode" part of the first link we provided in our previous reply.

Also, to help narrow the issue down further, can you confirm how much available space your Mac has? The "Find out how much storage is available on your Mac" section of this link has more information on how to check that: How to free up storage space on your Mac
