Terry3111,

Thank you for clarifying that for us. Do you have any restrictions turned on? You can go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, scroll to the bottom to the section titled "Allow Changes" and be sure that the "Passcode Changes" restriction is set to Allow.

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If that setting is off or this continues to occur after turning it off, you may want to backup your data, restore your iPad, set it up as new, and test to see if this continues to happen.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If this continues after setting up as new, you may want to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here: Get Support.

Good Luck!

Hi Terry3111,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. We can definitely understand how Touch ID disappearing can be an issue. How are you restarting your iPad? Are you just using the steps here: Restart your iPad? Are the fingerprints completely removed in Settings and you need to re-add them or are you being asked for a passcode after restarting your iPad? The reason we ask is that, after restarting your iPad using the steps in that article, it is expected behavior to have to enter your passcode. Once the passcode is entered then Touch ID is reactivated, if you simply lock your screen you should be able to use Touch ID to unlock it.

Check out the information in this article: If Touch ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad under the section titled " If you need to enter your passcode"

Hope that helps!

Thanks for taking my question.

I use the steps described in Restart your iPad or from the setting->general->shut down, to shut down my iPad.

And after power back on the iPad, login to iPad with passcode, the setting->Touch ID and passcode shows the fingerprints completely removed and the “ Use Touch ID for “ in the top of the setting such as “iPad unlock” and others have been set to off.

Thanks for your help.

Content & Privacy Restrictions setting is always off in my iPad, so I turn it on and set everything to allow, shutdown the iPad, and restart it. Problem still there. Finger print all gone, and Touch ID apply to all set to off.

Work around, for now I just put iPad to sleep when not using it and don’t shut it down.

will try the restore to factory setting later.
