Apple Watch Pairing

My Apple Watch stopped sending my workout data to my iPhone’s Fitness app. I thought to fix that with an unpair, then a repair of the watch to the iPhone. I followed the unpair instructions, and my watch was no longer visible to my iPhone. HOWEVER I received a message on my watch to the effect that it was not properly unpaired. I’ve tried to reset/erase the watch using the watch’s Settings app (I guess I’m giving up on any data in it). But it won’t reset until I unpair from the iPhone. The watch still thinks it’s paired, but the iPhone thinks it isn’t. I’m stuck in the loop.

Any way to force a reset even when the watch is no longer visible on iCloud’s “Find My . . . “?
