Connecting Apple TV 4K to Captive Networks

Isn’t there a way to connect Apple TV Box to a captive network? I understand that the reason the TV box can’t connect to captive network is because they require secondary login, which in most cases, like my case right now, is through a browser, and Apple TV doesn’t have that. But, isn’t there a way to authenticate such login using your iPhone or MacBook?

This apartment I’m staying at uses a captive network with no Ethernet access in the rooms now I can’t use my Apple TV. I’m forced to deal with my smart TV webOS interface which is just horrible!!!

I do put the SSID and chose WEP as the security setting

The security setting must match what the wireless access point/router is using. If that is configured for something else than WEP, then it won’t work. WEP is considered unsafe, as it can be broken rather fast. I hope nobody uses it. Ask your network administrator if WP3 or else WPA2 can be used (or just try it).

The recommended way to work around it, is to use a secondary router (e.g. a travel router), in between your devices and the ‘public’ network.

Another way to bypass the manual sign-in requirement, is to have the sign-in credentials in a semi-permanent device profile, which then automatically signs in. Device profiles can be configured and uploaded using the Configurator app on a Mac. This might unintentionally share your Apple TV as a detectable AirPlay destination device to other residents as well.

Hey. I am attempting the configurator app, but I am failing decimally! Think you can help?

  1. Connecting Apple TV to the Configurator App (the Apple TV cannot be connected to the same WiFi via the Ethernet cable. i.e. no Ethernet pots for this WiFi)
  2. Creating a WiFi profile for the captive network. I do manage to complete the setup but the profile is not working at the end (tried it with my iPhone). Not sure of the settings. I do put the SSID and chose WEP as the security setting and then put the password. Something tells me I am not doing it right. Remember, when I connect to this captive network, I select the SSID "POT WIFI" - then it will load a web page where I put my username (which is different from the SSID) then the password.
