Thank you for posting in Apple Communities. It sounds like you are having trouble with your paired AirPods. We have some tips that can help you find the solution that you are looking for.
To start, when you are seeing the AirPods listed as a separate device, are you looking at the battery widget for the AirPods? If so, the charge for your case appears only when at least one AirPod is in the case.
You can also see the status of your charging case by opening your case lid with your AirPods inside and hold your case close to your iPhone. Wait a few seconds to see the charge status of your AirPods with charging case.
