"Cannot Connect Using SSL" message when trying to add email to iphone 10. What do I do to add an account?

I have tried repeatedly to add my ATT email to my iphone 10 but keep getting the same message that the yahoo server timed out or that I cannot connect using SSL. I called ATT and they were NO help at all. Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this problem. I am at a total loss as to what to do. Thanks in advance!

Hi there debrahill94565,

We understand you're unable to add your AT&T email account to your iPhone because an alert appears indicating you can’t connect using SSL or there is an issue with the server. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can help.

To start, have you tried entering the account manually? Have a look at the support article below to learn how. You'll want to specifically take a closer look at the section entitled, 'Enter account settings manually':

Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

To find out what your email account settings should be, enter your email address in the search field of this link:

Mail Settings Lookup

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers.

Update your iPhone X to iOS 14.4.2, if not already running that.

Please post the diagnostic messages; the timeout implies a specification problem, a network problem, or another issue. Without a network connection, the SSL attempt will fail, too.

Please also post the domain—just the domain, leaving off the username before the @—used for the email address that you’re trying to configure.

Why the domain? Here are the server settings for a variety of email addresses associated with AT&T, though there are others:

Hi Sparks0829,

Thank you for trying to help. I have tried adding the info manually. It appears that the settings were being autofilled with the wrong imap and smtp info. Upon correcting it and hitting save, the "Cannot Connect Using SSL" message pops up again. Obviously I do not wish to set it up without SSL, so hitting the no button lands me back at the initial add account page. I feel like a hamster running on a wheel.

Any other possible options to try?

THX,

Debra

Hi MrHoffman,

Thank you for your help.

The phone software is current.

The initial response to filling out the email info comes back with a message 'connection to the server "pop.att.Yahoo.com" on port 995 timed out. Hitting the okay button allows one to add the correct imap and smtp info. Hit the save button and it attempts to verify once again. The next message is the dread "Cannot Connect". Hit yes to add the account and the next message will be that this account will not be able to send or receive mail. Hit no and you are back to the beginning, info is deleted and one starts all over again after swearing a blue streak.

So the domain is @sbcglobal.net. I have used several links, both via att and apple for get the correct settings.

Thank you again, for your time and assistance.

Debra
