Why won't iWatch update exercise ring

Why won't my watch update the exercise ring with a completed exercise, scheduled through the watch itself? It repeatedly does this. Sometimes, it gives a reduced value, like here, other times, it gives none. Occasionally, it works correctly. Any ideas?
