Classic iPod 5th gen
My iPod was working great yesterday but today when I go to use it I get the Apple logo and a reboot. And I can’t get it to recognize in macOS to restore it

Ah, if it is a boot loop see if you can get into diagnostics mode. If you can see Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. What are your HDD stats?
Apple no longer provide repair services for the 5th gen. iPod classic, so you're down to third party solutions. You would need to search out more information.

The hard drive has probably failed. See If you see a red X icon on your iPod classic or iPod nano (5th generation or earlier) - Apple Support (archived copy). You might want to consider an SD conversion kit to replace the failed drive.

I don’t ever see a red X. It’s acting like it’s stuck in a boot loop.
Is a SD conversion kit an authorized repair on these? Does Apple give instructions on how to do this?
thanks!
Ahh!! That’s what I was looking for. Putting the classic in DFU mode allowed macOS to finally recognize it and am starting the restore.
