Apple XS Heats up while connected to carplay in my Toyota 2019 LE

I have been facing this problem since last year with a replacement by Apple.

I have been experiencing apple phone getting disconnected from carplay and apps becoming non responsive and super hot to handle when my phone is connected to apple carplay ( if i am driving for more than 20 min during a bright sunny day with phone connected to carplay ). It happens if you use the maps and handfree call together on car play

Earlier i though that this is a problem with my apple phone and contacted apple and they replaced it. However i started getting this problem again and again and i had to unplug my wire from my car's USB port and leave it for a couple of min till it gets back to normal .

This becomes quite dangerous when you have your maps on and heading towards your direction and suddenly this stops working.

Steps i have taken so far:

Bought a new original cable to see if this was a problem with cable. ---No Go

Remove Apple cover and screen protection to see if this helped.- No Go.

I live in bay area and which is still not that hot as on date. I experienced it today as well while using maps on car play along with a handsfree call.

I tested by not using the cable and only maps and handsfree call on the car mount and it worked fine.

So now where should i go to get this problem fixed ...APPLE or Toyota.

Hi Gurdeepsaluja,

We understand you're having some issues with your iPhone getting warmer than expected, and becoming unresponsive when used with CarPlay.

Is the iPhone kept in a window or dash mount of view of direct sunlight when you're using it in the car?

If so, try using CarPlay without having the device in sunlight to see whether there's any change.

The following page that covers this type of behavior, mentions this in the bulleted points: Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

This may help narrow down whether there's an environmental component to the behavior you're encountering, and help narrow the behavior down further.

Cheers!
