poor signal on iphone 12 mini

I am experiencing poor standby signal on my iphone 12 mini. Sometime the standby signal drops and I miss calls. Any advice. I notice that when I make calls then the signal strength increases. Not sure if apple is trying to save battery this way but its resulting in a poor user experience

Signal Issues and Call Dropping since IOS 13 update. I recently updated my Iphone 8 to IOS 13 and subsequently to IOS 13.1.2. When I make or receive calls, the calls get dropped/cut off constantly. Some clients noted that when they try to call me my phone just beeps as if it is off even though that is not the case. Something seems to be very wrong with the signal since updating. I am on Vodacom's network in South Africa. Can anyone please confirm whether this is a known current issue?
