what would be a Apple approved anitivirus program???

It's built into the OS. Apple calls it XProtect. It works along with their Malware Removal Tool (MRT).

There are none. The built-in security is all you need.

And if you do use one, its apt to take down your mac, just FYI. Did that to one of my old macs, about 7 or 8 yo, and had to redo the whole hard drive, from my backup. Not pretty! Lot of current data not backed up that I lost.
