I go through all the steps to start the 1 year free trial. Double clicking side button to subscribe. After signing in I am asked to change my payment method which is Paypal. This payment method works for every other purchase I make but not this supposedly "free" Apple TV trial. What is the problem and how do I remedy to be able to take up the trial?

Subscriptions need a payment method that can be charged periodically and automatically (for after the free trial).
If none of your other payment methods are accepted, then consider using Apple ID account balance (store credit) for payments. To start a subscription that way, initially add the amount of one billing cycle to your balance. And top up if needed when you want to continue the service after the trial.
