using console to determine why mac keeps crashing

Hello. My mac (Mac Pro 4,1 running OS X 10.11.6) keeps crashing (once an hour on average). I’d like to find out why. I understand Console is supposed to hold system crash reports, but the .crash files I find report crashes of apps or processes (like MigratorUIAgend, Mail, Contacts). Those don’s seem system crash reports—or are they? Maybe I need an introduction to Console basics? I haven’t found anything like that yet. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Adware - Adware detected. - not to be taken lightly.

- This computer is running critically low on free hard drive space. - keep it at least 15% free.

  • unsigned software indicates you are downloading a lot of programs off of the App Store.
  • sharing services need to be turned off, unless you have other computers access it.
  • MS-DOS FAT32 components may be from unsuccessful attempted installs of Boot Camp.
  • 639.79 hard disk with only 34 GB free is less than 5% free. you will need to make 96 GB free or more.
  • 870.61 GB (841.25 GB used, 29.36 GB free) - is again less than 5% free and should be at least 120 GB free
  • Avira is not a well known anti-virus. Malwarebytes and Avast are far better. Remove Avira with its own uninstaller, or use Reggie Answorth's AppDelete.
  • MainSearchBoard Daemon is Adware, remove it.

Hello brody, thanks. I'll put the report in the additional text, but as far as I can tell, it doesn’t seem to indicate any problem severe enough to cause these crashes. Unfortunately, I lack the apple hardware test cd. Is the full version of Etrecheck capable of running the sort of test that cd would have run? I sort of suspect a defect in the graphics board.

Thanks again!

Hello brody,

thanks.

Freed up a lot of space particularly on the starup disk. The others will have to wait until new storage arrives.

Removed, except such unsigned files as I can identify and use.

  • sharing services need to be turned off, unless you have other computers access it.

I have, but I turned them off for now.

  • MS-DOS FAT32 components may be from unsuccessful attempted installs of Boot Camp.

Never attempted that. Is there any way those might be still needed? If no, would you happen to be able to advise on how these might be removed? I can’t seem to find anything on that.

I did that. Thanks.

Done. I’ve also eliminated the most crashing processes (MigratorUIAgent.app, com.adobe.ARMDC.Communicator and com.adobe.ARMDC.SMJobBlessHelper )

What would you suggest to do at this point? Wait and see how things go from here, or try and find a way to examine hardware components (such as faulty RAM, failing graphic board, malfunctioning physical drives … )?

Thanks again!
